Project Description:
The goal of this project is to develop a device that will be used as a new screening tool for critical congenital heart diseases. Students will be designing and prototyping a multimodal cardiac monitor in the first year and will test it on a few human subjects. In the subsequent years, students will modify the design of the device based on the feedback collected in the first year, obtain data from a larger population of newborns in a field-work type of environment (in the Philippines), and develop robust software (algorithms) to process the multimodal data that the device collects. This project aims to provide a low-cost and effective solution to screening critical congenital heart diseases, potentially saving many lives in regions with limited access to advanced medical technology.
