Project Mentor: Professor Cristi Vasile, Mechanical Engineering & Mechanics
Project Description:
What if Lehigh's campus could have a fast, efficient autonomous shuttle transportation system?
The project will design a hardware testbed to evaluate the safety of controllers in complex traffic scenarios, taking into account uncertainty and other factors. It builds on previous stages (including three years at Mountaintop) and aims to produce a report on the use of self-driving cars for a shuttle service on Lehigh’s campus. Students will have the opportunity to work in various areas, including robotics, control, machine learning, design, and project management. The project has the potential for impact and future iterations of the project might include research on perception and control, interaction between vehicles and infrastructures, and long-term deployment of mobility-on-demand systems. Students with skills in planning, design, programming, testing and deployment are encouraged to apply.
